How we keep kids safe
All lead coaches carry current lifeguard certifications with a minimum of 3 years of ocean recreation experience. Program ratios are kept strictly to 3:1 so that no mentor ever loses close-range visual contact.

The training is the program
We do not bring in casual seasonal staff. Every mentor undergoes rigorous weekly instruction, emergency drill simulations, and ongoing educational training.
Water safety to standard
Rigorous timed ocean rescue exercises, first aid, and regional swell response.
Culturally responsive practice
Coaching methods designed to uplift kids from all backgrounds, building safe physical spaces.
A shared field guide
Common pedagogical frameworks across oceanography, safety, and leadership milestones.
“We revisit our training every season to ensure standard compliance. It's not just onboarding; it's a permanent practice of leadership.”
— Coach Lead Coordinator
What kids take home
Belonging
A cohort where kids are known, valued, and safe.
Confidence
The pride of crossing limits in safe waters.
A real voice
Practice expressing feelings and values.
Ocean literacy
Firsthand safety and science expertise.
Team mentality
Strong habits of collaborative care.
We almost didn't sign up because of the cost. The sliding scale made it possible for our family. I'm so grateful — my daughter talks about Sea League every single day.
